NetApp Data ONTAP Pips Completion To Take Flag Position In Private Cloud Storage Infrastructure Space
IDC has given NetApp storage solution the top billing amongst the various other solutions which got shipped out in 2012 to build out the public cloud infrastructure. The rankings were published in mid December 2013, based on a survey that the research firm had conducted over a two year period to track the dynamics of the Infrastructure storage space. The survey findings were incorporated into the study which investigated the current trends and pointers to future deployments of storage systems, specifically in the enterprise infrastructure and cloud services space.
Explaining the rationale behind the rankings, Natalya Yezhkova, who is a research director at IDC has been quoted as saying that , “As our survey indicated, end users adopt and will continue to adopt variety of cloud storage services to optimize and expand their storage environments. Participation in building cloud infrastructures is an essential opportunity for storage system suppliers but it also requires innovation in product and solution designs to satisfy service provider needs, which are very different from traditional storage architectures.”
Seamless Interoperability
IDC found that NetApp was able to leverage its robust Data ONTAP® operating system to deliver a universally acclaimed data platform which offered systemic and seamless data portability and interoperability. This robust vendor agnostic platform, IDC believes is the secret behind the success of NetApps storage solutions emerging as a popular choice among the customer base, since it lends itself easily to coexist between various other product offerings which go in to making of the private adn public cloud platforms. The IDC report quotes NetApps install base numbers of close to 300 cloud services ( both private and public) being hosted by more than 175 cloud service providing companies using the Data ONTAP Storage Solutions.
